Apigee specialist (Apigee API Engineer)

Job Description

We are looking for an Apigee Specialist to be responsible for the design, development, and management of API gateways using Apige. In this role, you will play a key part in implementing API strategies for clients, ensuring high performance, security, scalability, and ease of use across their digital ecosystems. You will work closely with developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to create robust, efficient API architectures that meet business requirements.

• Apigee Platform Management:

• Design, develop, and deploy API proxies and policies using Apigee Edge adn Apigee X to enable secure, scalable, and reliable API integrations.

• Manage and configure the Apigee API Gateway, including API lifecycle management, traffic routing, load balancing, and version control.

• Implement API security measures, including authentication (OAuth, JWT, API keys), rate limiting, and traffic management.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Apigee platform, APIs, and integrations.
• API Design and Development:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to design RESTful APIs that align with business requirements and technical architecture.

• Work with development teams to ensure APIs are well-documented, easy to consume, and adhere to best practices for scalability, security, and performance.

• Write and deploy API policies for logging, monitoring, security, rate limiting, and other necessary configurations in the Apigee platform.

• API Analytics and Monitoring:

• Implement API monitoring and analytics to track performance, usage, and errors.

• Generate and analyze reports related to API traffic, errors, latency, and usage patterns to recommend improvements.

• Troubleshoot and optimize APIs based on real-time metrics and performance feedback.

• Integration and Optimization:

• Integrate Apigee with backend systems, cloud services, and external APIs.

• Optimize API performance by identifying bottlenecks, analyzing response times, and tuning backend services.

• Implement and manage API Caching and Throttling strategies to improve performance.

• Security and Compliance:

• Implement and manage API security protocols, such as OAuth 2.0, API keys, IP filtering, and encryption, to ensure APIs are secure from unauthorized access.

• Stay updated on best practices for API security and help clients achieve regulatory compliance for APIs.

• Ensure data privacy and integrity across all API transactions and integrations.

• Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

• Work closely with product teams, solution architects, and developers to understand API requirements and design solutions that align with business goals.

• Provide training and support to internal teams and clients on how to use and manage APIs effectively.

• Participate in client meetings to understand their needs, provide insights on API strategy, and ensure successful API implementation.

• Documentation and Best Practices:

• Create and maintain detailed documentation for API designs, configurations, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Advocate for API best practices, ensuring consistent use of standards and patterns across all projects.

Personal Skills

• Agile & Collaboration: Experience working in agile development teams, collaborating with cross-functional teams including designers, QA engineers, and product managers.
• Problem-Solving & Debugging: Strong debugging, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex issues in both the front-end and back-end.

Technical Skills

Strong expertise in Google Apigee Edge (or Apigee Hybrid/X).
Proficiency in RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, GraphQL, and SOAP.
Knowledge of OAuth, JWT, API keys, TLS, and WS-Security.Hands-on experience with JavaScript, Python, Java, or Node.js.
Experience working with Apigee or other API gateways like AWS API Gateway, MuleSoft, Kong, or Azure API Management.
Experience with tools like Jenkins, Git, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure.
Understanding of Apigee analytics, logging, and monitoring tools.
Experience with microservices architecture and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence).
Exposure to API monetization, developer portals, and API marketplaces is a plus

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
